In modern (Royal) astronomy and astrophysics dark force is a theoretical concept often discussed in connection with research into dark matter and dark energy to explain unexplained phenomena in the universe.

Dark Force

What is it? A hypothetical “fifth fundamental force” of nature that could act specifically in the “dark sector” of the universe.

Function: It is proposed to explain how dark matter particles interact with each other (Self-Interacting Dark Matter - SIDM), which could explain the high density of dark matter halos around galaxies.

Connection: While dark matter (the “glue” effect) and dark energy (the ‘repulsion’ effect) determine the structure and expansion of the universe, a “dark force” could make these invisible components more dynamic than previously thought.
