Dimitris Lignadis is a Greek actor and theatre director.
He was the artistic director of the National Theatre from August 2019 until his resignation on 6 February 2021 and after a series of allegations of rape against minors, for which he was found to be in custody with the consent of the investigator and the prosecutor and was taken to Tripoli Prison,
In February 2022 his trial began and on 13 July 2022 he was found guilty of two rapes of minors He was given a total sentence of 12 years in prison without any mitigating circumstances, while he was acquitted of the other two charges. ] The court decided, by a majority (4 - 3: two jurors and one judge dissented), that the appeal should have suspensive effect, i. e. that he should be released until the case is heard in the second instance.
The decision was met with strong reactions from the crowd and caused a political conflict.
