Thanks! I use a Uni Pin 0.1 when I want the fine and very slightly uncertain line that I used for the background in the Morse Toad cartoon and the trees in the Google Fish one. The tips on Uni Pins seem to wear quickly, which is why the line is a bit uncertain. If I wanted a more consistent line, I'd probably go for a Copic Multiliner - I've got these in 0.3 and up, and their lines don't vary. Not sure how well any 0.05 would scan: I sometimes find that the 0.1 Uni Pin is a bit too thin once scanned, even at 600dpi. I would like to find a really fine brush pen though.

I thought I'd also add that I've learnt some techniques from Chinese calligraphy. I drew the windows, for example, very quickly in the same way the Chinese write the character for "mouth", 口. Left-hand stroke downwards, then right and down for the top and right-hand stroke, and then right for the bottom stroke.

Thanks Deborah, it's nice of you to say so. I'm slowly working out how I best want to use the brush pen. It can be frustrating sometimes, trying to draw fine lines with it, but it gives me wonderful variation in line, and intense contrast.

By the way, it's a Pentel brush pen, which has a fairly thick point. I'd really like to find a pen with a finer brush, though perhaps I'd have to go to Korea, China, or Japan. Suggestions from anyone reading this would be welcome.

Thanks, Deleted Person. There are more stories in a Word booklet, downloadable via http://www.j-paine.org/dobbs/pentel_brush_pen.html . As for the style, I notice it's different from many cartoons on this site. I'm not sure whether to think that's good or not. The brush pen must influence it, and I seem to use a lot of open space.
