The Europeans’ refusal to participate in a military operation in the Strait of Hormuz has infuriated U.S. President Donald Trump. The Republican leader is particularly vocal in his surprise at Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CD), as Merz had previously struck a very different tone toward Trump. The U.S. president has sharply criticized Germany and other NATO countries for their failure to provide assistance in securing the Strait of Hormuz.
