Five months into the U.S. war with Iran, the conflict continues with no clear end in sight. The war, launched by President Donald Trump in February 2026, has cost the United States an estimated $37.5 billion and killed 18 U.S. service members, according to a recent Reuters/Ipsos report. Only 35% of Americans surveyed said they supported the war, while 50% expected the situation in the Middle East to become more chaotic.

Trump had repeatedly campaigned on avoiding new wars. In June, however, he rejected the suggestion that the Iran conflict contradicted that message, saying he had not guaranteed that there would be no wars.
